Rejected, and oddly pleased about it

App Store review came back with three reasons, two of them entirely our own doing. What we learned.

This was meant to be the post where we said Snop is out. It is not that post.

Snop is with Apple, being reviewed, and it has already come back once. Three reasons, two of them entirely our own doing. We could have fixed them quietly and written the launch post next week as though none of it happened. This seemed more useful.

What Snop is, if you're new here

You're halfway up a hill, or waiting for the kettle, and you think of exactly the right thing to ask an AI. It's specific, it's good, and it is entirely made of air. By the time you sit down at your Mac, all that's left is the vague shape of it.

So: say a prompt to Siri, run a Shortcut, or type it into the app. It syncs. It's waiting on your Mac when you get there. You copy it, and Snop remembers that you did. Capture there, use here. That's the whole loop.

The three reasons lessons learned

No Terms of Service link in App Info. Required for auto-renewing subscriptions. We had the terms in the app. We had not pasted the URL into App Store Connect. A ten-minute job, a three-day round trip.

The word "iPhone" in our subtitle. Device names aren't allowed there. Which stings slightly when the hand-off between two specific devices is your product and you may not name either of them. Although "Capture prompts on the go, use them at your desk" describes the outcome rather than the mechanism, and is better. Irritating to have to admit.

No subscription attached to the Mac app. We submitted both apps at once and configured the subscription against iOS only, assuming the Mac side would inherit it. Apple opened the Mac app first, went looking for something to buy, found nothing, and rejected it. Correctly.

That last one is the real lesson, and it isn't about App Store Connect. Submit two things together and you don't choose which gets looked at first. It'll be the one that's least ready.

Where things stand

All three fixed, iOS resubmitted. Now we wait, then submit the Mac version. This seems be the least documented part of shipping software and the part that takes longest.

If you'd like to know the moment it's live, there's a waiting list on the homepage. We'll use your email for exactly one thing.

More soon, hopefully with a better headline.
